Held in honour of San Paolino di Nola a southern Italian patron saint the 11 day festival kicks off with 100 men carrying a 65foot papiermch statue around the streets. There are also carnival rides live street performances and plenty of Italian cuisine on offer.
To indulge in all things arty make sure you head to the New York International Fringe Festival. Established in 1996 and jam packed with theatre comedy music and dance performances it attracts over 75000 visitors every year. Held over 16 days it boasts over 1300 performances meaning there is enough entertainment to keep you occupied all day long!
If you fancy taking part in something a little more unusual however then check out the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. Held every year for the last 26 years it is famous for being Americas largest art parade as well as for housing some of the most outlandish costumes around. Attracting both celebrities and tourists alike it is well worth the visit.
